Home » 07 – Women Say They Want Emotionally Intelligent Men… But Do They Actually Respect Them? (Part 1)| #WhyDoesHeMoveThat

🔥 The Conversation Men Have in Private… But Rarely Say Publicly

Women often say they want emotionally intelligent men.

Men who communicate.
Men who are vulnerable.
Men who are emotionally available.

But when men actually show those qualities… are they truly respected for it?

Or quietly viewed differently?

In Part 1 of this special two-part conversation from our Understanding Men series, we bring together a powerful panel of men and women to unpack one of the most emotionally layered conversations in modern dating.

This isn’t about attacking women.
And it isn’t about telling men to suppress emotion.

It’s about exploring the tension many men feel between being emotionally open… and still feeling respected, desired, and masculine in relationships.

This isn’t theory.
This is lived experience.

🎙️ Why This Conversation Exists

This series was created by Tonya Buford, founder of Beyond the Profile: Swipe Less. Connect More, out of a growing frustration she saw in today’s dating culture.

Too many people are:

• Asking for emotional vulnerability… but not always knowing how to receive it
• Confusing emotional intelligence with emotional softness
• Navigating relationships without healthy examples of communication
• Struggling to balance vulnerability, masculinity, attraction, and respect

Tonya created this space to shift that.

👉 To move beyond surface-level dating conversations
👉 To create honest dialogue around the emotional realities men and women face
👉 To challenge assumptions that often go unquestioned

Because when people feel emotionally safe… relationships deepen.

But when emotional honesty is punished instead of respected… people begin to shut down.

🔥 What We Talked About

In Part 1, the panel dives into:

• Whether women truly respect emotionally vulnerable men
• The difference between emotional intelligence and emotional weakness
• Why some men feel safer hiding their emotions
• How attraction and respect can shift in relationships
• The pressure men feel to remain emotionally “strong” at all times
• Whether modern dating encourages emotional honesty—or punishes it

🔥 5 KEY TAKEAWAYS (FOR SHOW NOTES)

1. Attraction Isn’t Just Physical — Energy Matters

The panel agreed that looks may get attention initially, but attitude, emotional energy, and how someone makes a man feel often determine whether attraction grows… or fades.

2. Men Often Stay Quiet About Their Turn-Offs

Many men don’t openly communicate what’s bothering them in relationships or dating. Instead, attraction slowly decreases over time while the issue goes unaddressed.

3. Emotional Safety Matters for Men Too

A recurring theme throughout the conversation was that men also want peace, understanding, and emotional safety—but many don’t feel comfortable expressing that openly.

4. Modern Dating Expectations Are Creating Confusion

The panel discussed how social media, dating culture, and shifting gender expectations have created disconnects between what people say they want… and how they actually behave in relationships.

5. Honest Conversations Create Better Relationships

One of the biggest takeaways from the episode was that many relationship problems begin with misunderstanding, assumptions, and lack of communication. Real dialogue creates clarity—and clarity leads to better choices in dating.
